Patient Centered Obstetric and Gynecologic Care

All of our providers at Westar OB/GYN pride themselves in taking the time to get to know you, your family, and the health and wellness services needed for a long and healthy life span. Our nurse practitioners pride themselves in the most up-to-date education and screenings available.

Our physicians entrust Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital for the delivery of your baby and major and minor surgical procedures.

We can also treat patients for outpatient services and minor procedures at the Ohio Health Polaris Surgery Center.

Dr. Alan Murnane

Dr. Alan Murnane is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Murnane did his undergraduate studies at The Ohio State University and graduated summa cum laude. Dr. Murnane earned his doctorate in medicine at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and did his residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati. Dr. Murnane serves as the volunteer Medical Director for Pregnancy Decision Health Centers (PDHC) and as a leader for the Mt. Carmel St. Ann’s Medical Staff. Dr. Murnane is a highly experienced surgeon, with special interest in minimally-invasive vaginal surgery approaches. He is a supporter of Vaginal Birth after Cesarean (VBAC).

 

Murnane lives in Westerville with his wife and four children. He is happy to be able to ride his bicycle to work. Dr. Murnane enjoys gardening, cooking, skiing, and traveling with his family.

Dr. Angela Rouse

Dr. Angela Rouse, FACOG, NAMS certified practitioner has been practicing since 2009 in central Ohio, having moved from Seattle, WA to be closer to family. She is currently participating in an integrative medicine fellowship at the University of Arizona to further expand her treatment options and continue her patient-centered care practice. Over the past few years, she has spent additional time specializing in the challenges women face from their mid-30s and beyond, but continues to enjoy every aspect of the field of OB/GYN, including adolescent care, vaginitis, the treatment of fibroids, endometriosis, and heavy menstrual bleeding involves nonsurgical and surgical methods. She is trained in minimally invasive surgery, including robotic hysterectomy and other laparoscopic approaches, and she feels passionately that these methods are the best decision if surgery is required. She is focused on providing patients with all acceptable options and helping decide treatment plans that best fit their needs.

 

In her free time she enjoys cooking, travel, and spending time with her family, including her husband Daniel Logan and their seven children.

Dr. Seretha Ransom

Seretha Ransom is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Seretha Ransom did her undergraduate studies at The University of Notre Dame and earned her doctorate in medicine at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Dr. Ransom did her residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at Greenville Health System in Greenville, SC. As a physician, Dr. Ransom’s goal is to provide patient-centered care. Starting at the first visit. Dr. Ransom makes an effort to understand what her patient’s needs are and works with the patient to create a plan of care that fits these needs. She wants to empower her patients to be an active participant in their care by listening and educating them at each visit about all available treatment options. For Dr. Ransom the best part of being an OBGYN is being able to support women through all stages of life from adolescence, through childbearing, and menopause.

 

Outside of practicing medicine, Dr. Seretha Ransom enjoys spending time with her family, learning new dance styles and volunteering in the community.

Dr. Justin Himler

Justin Himler completed his undergraduate studies at The Ohio State University, where he earned his degree in biochemistry. He then earned his doctorate at the Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr Himler went on to complete his residency training at MetroHealth Medical Center – Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio where he was elected chief resident. He has a strong interest in preventative medicine, working together with his patients to foster a healthy lifestyle and promote a healthy pregnancy. Part of what makes the field so rewarding to him is the opportunity it provides to attend to and care for his patients throughout every phase of life. Dr Himler also has an interest in the minimally invasive approach to surgery, specifically laparoscopy.

 

When not at work, Dr. Himler enjoys spending time with his wife, Dr. Mona Adeli, who is an attending ophthalmologist at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. In his free time, he enjoys reading, golfing, Buckeye football, and staying active.

Katherine Elliot

Katherine Elliot is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She graduated from Mount Carmel College of Nursing magna cum laude with her bachelor’s and her master’s from the Otterbein University. Katherine joined Westar OB/GYN in October 2005, and she works at both the Sunbury and Westerville locations. She is passionate about health and wellness education, including new OB teaching, exercise and disease prevention recommendations, and skills in coping with depression and anxiety. Katherine also is very involved in the genetic aspect of fetal genetics and heredity cancer screening. She enjoys educating about cancer prevention and providing the appropriate management for elevated cancer risks.

 

When Katie is not working, she enjoys volunteering at the Big Walnut Local Schools and trail running. She is also involved in helping coach soccer for her children, and she plays in an adult league in Dublin. Katie has been active in the Relay for Life for more than ten years in Sunbury and the local towns.

Eileen Sirois, CNM

Eileen graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1981. She obtained a Master of Science in Midwifery from the University of Utah in 1990. Since then she has been practicing full scope midwifery both in military and civilian practices. Her accomplishments include the Ohio Exemplary Midwife Award in 2003, Chair of the NW Ohio chapter of the American College of Nurse-Midwives, and one term as the ACNM legislative liaison for Ohio. She has a special interest and intensive training in natural fertility regulation and is certified as a Creighton Model Fertility Care Practitioner/medical consultant. Eileen enjoys helping couples manage their fertility without drugs and devices. She is a life member of the American College of Nurse-Midwives and the American Academy of Fertility Care Professionals.

 

She retired from the Navy in 2012 after 20 years of military service. She and her husband, Rick, moved back to Ohio in 2013 to be near their adult children and four grandchildren. She especially values spending time with them at their cabin in the country.

Carey Barber

Carey Barber is a certified Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Mt. Carmel College of Nursing in 1999 and obtained a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Cincinnati in 2017. Carey has spent her entire nursing career working in women’s health with 16 years of experience in labor and delivery at Mt. Carmel St. Ann’s. Carey works closely with our physicians to provide collaborative care to our patients. Our patients are able to see Carey for preventative well woman care, low-risk pregnancy care, and for many gynecologic concerns.

 

Carey lives in Mt. Vernon with her husband Brian and 3 children. When she is out of the office she enjoys running, camping and traveling with her family.

Dr. Alicia Thompson, D.O.

Dr. Alicia Thompson earned her medical degree at Nova Southeastern University in Florida. She completed her OB/GYN residency in Dayton, Ohio. Dr. Thompson served in the Air Force from 2006 to 2013.

Dr. Thompson has four young children, and her husband is a physician specializing in Radiation Oncology.

Dr. Thompson has a particular interest in natural family planning, and she sees patients in the office on Fridays.

Our Care Team

Westar OB/GYN offices are staffed with professionals who all play an integral role in your health care.

Receptionists

Our receptionists ensure your appointment is scheduled appropriately, your insurance information is collected accurately, and that your appointment begins and ends with a warm smile.

Medical Assistants

Our medical assistants are highly trained to confidentially collect your healthcare information and help organize it for your provider. The medical assistants are available to serve as chaperones during your appointment at your request.

Registered Nurses

Our registered nurses have years of experience in OB/GYN and are available to answer your telephone calls and emails (via our Patient Portal). Our nurses work with all the physicians and nurse practitioners to implement your health care plan.

Ultrasonographers

We have certified medical ultrasonographers to perform ultrasound scans both obstetrical and gynecological. Your physician interprets the images obtained from our state-of-the-art ultrasound machines.

Phelobotomist

We have an experienced LabCorp phlebotomist for in-office lab draws. If you need your lab work to be sent to a lab other than LabCorp, let the phlebotomist or medical assistant know, and we will send it to the lab of your choice.

Procedure Scheduler

We have a designated staff member to personally work with you to schedule your hospital or in-office surgical procedure.

Certified Nurse Practitioners

We have Certified Nurse Practitioners who focus on health and wellness education. Our nurse practitioners work with the physicians to create an integrated health care team for you. Our nurse practitioners are able to perform health exams and to prescribe medications for many common conditions. Our physicians are always available to provide consultations for our Certified Nurse Practitioners.
